Bargaining, Burritos, and The Bund

This morning we stopped in a random bakery for breakfast, and got the most delicious rolls with pieces of bacon inside!  The bread was so soft and a little bit sweet.  Mmm.  After that we got on the metro to a nearby market.

Chinese markets are so scary.  First the people yell at you to try to lure you into their store, then when you want something you awkwardly have to fight over the price until it is a good deal (you can usually get things for less than half of what they ask).  But if you decide you don't want something after all, they get super mad and yell at you, sometimes using colorful language.  But you have to do it for the experience, and because you can get stuff for dirt cheap.  It is easy to get carried away though!  Bailey bought a backpack, some communist merch, a mahjong set, and some ties.  I bought some souvenirs for our families, some postcards, a coat, a tapestry sort of thing (I'd say more like a painting made out of stitching), and a super cool metal pagoda that is going to look awesome on a future mantle.  We probably bought even more than that but I just can't remember!

We made it out of the market alive and showed our friends what we bought.  They also got some good deals!

One thing that I've been seriously craving is Mexican food.  So I made a decision that we would trek to the nearest Mexican restaurant, even though it was only given 3 stars online.  To get there we had to walk through Century Park, which was beautiful!

I need to do some serious reviewing online, because the Mexican food, after we finally got to it, was AMAZING.  I don't know if it was amazing because we've been away from such food for so long, or if it really was just exceptional Mexican food.  But oh my gosh to have chips and salsa, cheese, sour cream, and enchiladas.... words can't even describe my happiness.

We ate a whole lot of food, then headed to Bailey's no. 1 stop.  The place that he has been so excited for: The South Bund Fabric Market!

Wow, what a place!  There were probably like 4 floors of shops and shops of vendors selling you custom clothes.  Not really my kind of place, because I'd rather just buy something on the spot than have to wait a couple of days for it to be made (which really works well for me in China, I am exactly Asian sized so everything already fits perfect here!)  But Bailey was in heaven!  He had already done the research, so we hit specific vendors that he knew were good to price things out.  He ordered a custom shirt tonight, but we ran out of time (they close kind of early) to order anything else, so we will for sure be back tomorrow!

I have a serious problem here in China with ice cream.  I eat TONS of it.  First of all it actually tastes better here, their normal soft serve is way creamier than America's.  Also, I think my body is having dairy withdrawals and maybe craves ice cream as a result?  I don't know, but either way, Dairy Queen was our next stop!  And kind of our dinner, considering we ate so much Mexican food that we weren't ready for actual dinner.

We headed to The Bund for some cool pictures, and walked through Nanjing Road again to get there.

I'm so excited about my new coat!

The Bund was INSANE!  There were so many people!  We kind of had to vulture around some people until they were done, then had to quickly get our shots before more people moved in on us.  But wow it was quite the view!  Super gorgeous!

Turning the other way was cool too, to see the other styles of buildings.  The Bund is the perfect place to be to see the world's largest city!

I'm getting old or something, because by that time I was exhausted.  We went back to the hotel, went for a quick swim, then it was off to bed for us!
