Exploring Oahu

Bailey and I slept in this morning while Dillon and Shey went to class.  Unfortunately Dillon had to work today, but once Shey got out she drove us to the other side of the island for some adventures!

We started by hiking the Lanikai Pillbox hike which was gorgeous!  It was pretty steep and both Bailey and I had forgotten hiking shoes and were just wearing Tevas (the ones without the strap on the back!) so it was kind of a challenge but so worth it.  It had some amazing sights, wasn't too crowded, and was the perfect length.  We had fun looking at all of the cool plants, the gorgeous beach in the distance, and all of the houses that probably cost so much!

At the top there were two military bunkers.  We climbed on top of one for the ultimate view.

After the hike we drove along the coast which was beautiful by itself, but we stopped at the coolest place.  It is called Halona Blowhole, and there's a lookout you can stop at, but you can actually climb down closer to it and explore.  And explore we did!  It was really an amazing sight, even with all of the scary black crabs.

We also really enjoyed this monk seal just taking a nap on the beach.  I want to be like him!

I'm not quite sure what the next stop was, but it was super cool.  The rocks were really interesting to see with their layers.  To get there, we climbed through a tunnel under the freeway (made by lava) and suddenly we were in the magical place all by ourselves!  Eventually, in a few years, the rest of the tourists will find their way to this place, but we felt pretty special today being there alone with all of the crabs.

We grabbed some late lunch in town and then booked it over to Hanauma Bay.  We were running out of time and we knew that, but we thought we had at least an hour... turns out, they close officially at 6 but they start yelling at you to clear out at 5:00.  We got there at 4:50 and figured it wasn't worth getting in the water.  So that's kind of a bummer, because Bailey loves snorkeling and was excited to see it.  But we may find time to come back later!

Shey took us to her favorite ice cream place where they roll your ice cream up from sheets.  Just like in China!  Except this stuff was way better.  I got strawberry shortcake flavor with graham crackers, strawberries, whipped cream, sweet and condensed milk, and FRESHLY TOASTED MARSHMALLOWS.  I forgot to take a picture, I was so excited to eat it!  Was it worth the $15 for mine and Bailey's ice cream?  Well yeah.

Everything is so far apart here in Oahu.  Like, it is an hour drive to get anywhere from North Shore!  North Shore is my favorite part so far, though.  So we went on a little roadtrip to get home and enjoyed just chatting and listening to the couple of rainstorms that happened.  I'm so bummed that we are more than halfway through our trip.  I'm seriously thinking that I might want to just stay here forever!
