Baofeng Lake

This morning we took a bus to the Baofeng Lake area.  Though I've been to Zhangjiajie before, the only thing I did was go to the National Forest Park, so I was excited to see what else the city has to offer!  We were dropped off at the bottom of the mountain, where there were vendors making candy (we bought some peanut flavored candy!), girls dressed up in traditional clothes, and a pretty waterfall!

From one of the vendors I bought a red backpack that is actually the same one my high school friend Kylee bought when we were in China together.  I had bought a black one at the same time as her, but it broke years ago so I was excited to buy a new one!

After checking out the giant salamander in a fountain (it was indeed enormous, and a little unsettling to think that they populate the Baofeng Lake) we started walking up the mountain path!  Bailey made a little broom out of a piece of bamboo and had way too much fun sweeping the path for us.  It was, of course, an inclined walk, but we were all just grateful it wasn't stairs.

We spoke too soon of course.  Because then there were stairs!

Luckily the walk wasn't too long.  And after we got off the main road (you could pay to take a bus up the main road, but we prefer hiking) it got really pretty!

All of a sudden the path ended, and there was Baofeng Lake!

It was such an amazing sight!  There were about 4 people other than us there, so it seemed very deserted and peaceful.  We just stared and stared because it was such a magical sight.

Eventually we hopped on one of those boats and took a little ride!

There was a tour guide on the boat, but of course we couldn't understand what she was saying.  We just enjoyed the views!

By the end of the ride we learned that we were supposed to clap whenever we passed one of these little houses.  Because then a person would come out and sing to us!

The boat ride is pretty much all there is to do at the lake, so after that we just walked back down.  We hit a little pagoda on the way which was cute, but I guess I forgot to take pictures of it.

So I will leave you with this picture of Bailey with an ox that he found!  He is always excited to find his ox when we come across zodiac statues.
